we are committed to reshaping policies that govern waste management, housing, and community development. We believe that policy change is essential to creating an environment where plastic waste is no longer a problem but a valuable resource, and where marginalized communities can thrive in sustainable, eco-friendly homes. Through strategic advocacy, we are working to transform systems, drive environmental justice, and promote social equity. We aim to empower communities and influence government action by creating policies that prioritize waste management, green building practices, and economic opportunities for youth and women.

Areas of Policy Advocacy
Plastic waste has become one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. At Upcycle Africa, we are pushing for: Bans on Single-Use Plastics: Advocating for stronger regulations on single-use plastics and promoting alternatives. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR): Encouraging policies that require manufacturers to take responsibility for the end-of-life of their plastic products. Incentives for Recycling & Upcycling: We are lobbying for tax incentives and subsidies for businesses and communities involved in recycling and upcycling initiatives.
In Uganda and across Africa, many people still live in unsafe, poorly built homes. We are advocating for policies that promote: Recognition of Upcycled Materials in Construction: We are working with governments to officially recognize upcycled plastic as a legitimate building material. Sustainable Housing Development: We are pushing for policies that subsidize eco-friendly and affordable housing, especially for low-income and marginalized communities. Building Code Reforms: Reforming local building codes to encourage sustainable and climate-resilient housing.
Climate Action & Circular Economy We believe that circular economy models can drive sustainable development across Africa. Our focus areas include: Incorporating Circular Economy Models in National Climate Plans: We are working with governments to integrate circular economy practices into their climate strategies. Local Government Support for Circular Practices: We are encouraging local governments to adopt policies that support waste-to-resource initiatives and reduce the environmental impact of waste.
